Abstract

This contribution presents the Repertorio Italiano di Famiglie di Parole [Italian repertoire of word families], a work that analyzes 366 word families and a sum of 25.000 entries, grouped on the basis of the Latin words they originate from. On the basis of several examples, it is shown how the concepts of word families and descendance allows to link etymological notions to a deeper and more detailed metalinguistic reflection, in order to enhance lexicon tanks to both instruction and individual study.
